Statement from Bishop Kate Wilmot

Dear People of Darlington-Bellevue Parish

With regret, I bring you the news that the Professional Standards Committee of the Diocese of Perth, has recommended that the Reverend Chris Bedding be suspended pending a decision of the Professional Standards Board.

I advise that this constitutes a matter of clergy discipline and  does not involve  allegations  of sexual misconduct or child sexual abuse.

The process prescribed by the Professional Standards Statute 2015 is an independent confidential one  so I am  unable to provide you with any other details of the matter at this time.

During this suspension The Reverend Chris Bedding will continue to receive the normal stipend and other benefits to which he would normally be  entitled and has been offered counselling and support at Diocesan expense.

The Diocesan leadership is fully supportive of the Parish of Darlington-Bellevue and will arrange for alternative priestly and pastoral support for the parish until this matter is ultimately resolved.

Your continued strong support of your parish community and your prayers for Chris, the parish and the ongoing process are deeply appreciated.

With my best wishes, committed support and continued prayers.

+ Kate Wilmot
