The church used to be in the centre of the village in pre-modern society. In modernity, our societies have become both more secular – not everyone believes in God – and more religiously diverse and pluralistic. How should Christians ‘be’ the church when the church is no longer the centre of the village, and not the only place of worship either?
This seminar will be presented by Dr Mark Jennings, Lecturer in Theology and Sociology at Murdoch University. His research is primarily in the Sociology of Religion and he writes on the relationship between secularisation and religion in the twentieth and early twenty-first century. He also has a an interest in the sociology of popular music.
